Now this is strange. EISA’s (European Imaging and Sound Association) European Photo Phone award is usually reserved for Nokia phones, but this year it’s the Samsung G810 which got all the glory. Best of all (as far as Samsung is concerned), they’re using Nokia’s S60 platform for their baby.

We’ve already covered the G810 in the past. Let me just quickly recap the specs. The kick-ass device sports a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical and 4x digital zoom and Xenon flash. In addition, Samsung’s smartphone features such digital camera technologies as face detection, image stabilizer, high ISO (up to 800), macro shot, panorama shot and mosaic and multi shot. Then there’s a GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and much more on board… In a nutshell, we do agree with EISA’s decision. For now — until the phones with 8 megapixel cameras are released — the Samsung G810 is the best camera phone. Period!

Samsung will shortly introduce i8510, a camera phone that comes with an eight mega pixel (MP) image sensor, the first of its kind on mobiles. With the introduction of this new feature, customers can now enjoy capturing high quality pictures compared to what it was on older mobile phones.

The i8150 camera phone with its capability to take high quality pictures identical to the ones taken on a digital camera, might as well lead to the end of digital cameras. Sources indicate that the pictures taken on the i8150 were the best ever to have been taken via a camera phone. Says Paul Nuttall, writer of What Digital Camera, that the open space between a digital camera and a camera phone has narrowed over the years and with the introduction of an 8 MP on mobiles, customers will find it difficult to distinguish an image taken with a 8 MP camera phone and a digital camera.

Despite its possible success, the major concern will be the size of the picture as a phones’ size limits the option to include a zoom lens, common to the conventional digital camera.

None-the-less, the Symbian powered phone incorporates all the advanced features, has a storage capacity of 8GB and will also provide high speed wireless connection to the internet. The design is stylish and the slider phone comes with a simple menu option. Sources indicate that people who had tested the i8150, finds capturing pictures much easier and faster and the camera adjusts to varying surrounding conditions with ease. The image colors were well defined and rich and the presence of a LED flash allows one to take pictures at dusk

Samsung will create history by launching its new product in Great Britain, with sources indicating that Sony Ericsson is planning to launch their own editions shortly. The Samsung mobile with its much hyped feature and the introduction of such headsets by other manufacturers will provide customers an option to go for a handset rather than a camera, which might mark the near end of a digital camera.

The folks at Rapid Repair have posted disassembly pictures and instructions, in case you want to get your own Samsung Instinct stripped down and dirty. But, unless you like to void warranties and risk possible brickage, we’d recommend that you leave your Sprint Samsung Instinct fully clothed.

We all knew Sprint’s Apple iPhone-fighting Samsung Instinct would sell quite well, but it turns out that’s a gross overstatement. Toting features like EVDO Rev. A, GPS, 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, and full-body touchscreen with haptic feedback (via device vibration), the Sprint Samsung Instinct has the distinction of being the iPhone 3G’s most competent rival.

And, since Sprint officially kicked off general sales of the Samsung Instinct on June 20, Sprint’s been seeing these touchscreen handsets flying off their shelves. So much so that Sprint has announced the Samsung Instinct as the best-selling EVDO handset to ever be offered from Sprint.

The Sprint Instinct’s first week of sales has proven that consumers have embraced the touchscreen revolution. With the initial rush to buy the device, Sprint had trouble keeping units in stock, leading to temporary stock shortages.

“We had high expectations going into the launch so our initial order to Samsung was the largest for any Sprint EVDO handset to date,” said John Garcia, President of Sprint’s Wireless Division. “The strong early response tells us that wireless customers recognize Instinct as a highly-innovative and convenient touch-screen device combined with the fast speeds available on the largest national mobile broadband network.”

The Sprint Instinct is priced at just $130 after $100 rebate and 2-year contract. If you can’t swing that kind of coin, try winning a free Instinct.

So, just how good is the Samsung Instinct? Well, if consumer demand is any indicator, it’s a bang-up handset for sure. If my opinion matters at all, then the Sprint Samsung Instinct is a serious competitor to the iPhone 3G. Each handset has its own strengths and weaknesses, but overall, you can’t go wrong with the Samsung Instinct.

Well, we previously told you that there are rumblings throughout the various intertubes that AT&T is looking to bring the WiFi, 3G (UMTS/HSDPA), and GPS-addled Samsung SGH-i788 on board as a touchscreen offering to its Windows Mobile 6.1 fans. Sure, that sounds all well and good, especially considering that the added features of the Samsung i788 (which is the US-spec i780, by the way) make it a veritable shoe-in as the next-step-up from the Samsung BlackJack II.

Now we’re hearing that AT&T may not just be welcoming the Samsung i788 in to its stable of smartphones, but will also be branding the handset as the BlackJack III - a successor to the venerable BJ2. Now, the question is, what will AT&T change when/if they decide to start peddling the Samsung i788 as the BlackJack III. Pray to the wireless gods that GPS and WiFi make the cut…

Random tips from those allegedly privy to AT&T meetings are the sort of rumors that we thrive on. So, imagine our excitement when we heard that some handset manufacturer representatives at a recent AT&T store managers’ meeting started showing off their latest wares. Most interesting is the mention of a Samsung SGH-i780 destined for AT&T. Of course, we’d most likely be seeing AT&T launching the Samsung i788 with the requisite frequency support for the US, but we’re not here to split hairs.

The rep mentioned that the Samsung i788 was not yet released, which could be interpreted as “in the pipeline.”

I’ve had the pleasure of playing with the Samsung i780’s optical trackpad and touchscreen at CTIA Las Vegas 2008. It was running Windows Mobile 6.1, so if the Samsung i788 does indeed hit AT&T, it’ll likely be running the newer OS. The i788 has a bit more heft than the Samsung BlackJack II, but that’s to be expected, what with WiFi, GPS, and 3G packed in to the Samsung i788. All in all, the Samsung i788 is what the Samsung BlackJack II should have been…

Look for the AT&T-branded Samsung i788 to drop around the same time as the BlackBerry Bold and Apple iPhone 3G.
