Samsung G810 awarded the European Photo Phone 2008-2009

Now this is strange. EISA’s (European Imaging and Sound Association) European Photo Phone award is usually reserved for Nokia phones, but this year it’s the Samsung G810 which got all the glory. Best of all (as far as Samsung is concerned), they’re using Nokia’s S60 platform for their baby.

We’ve already covered the G810 in the past. Let me just quickly recap the specs. The kick-ass device sports a 5 megapixel camera with 3x optical and 4x digital zoom and Xenon flash. In addition, Samsung’s smartphone features such digital camera technologies as face detection, image stabilizer, high ISO (up to 800), macro shot, panorama shot and mosaic and multi shot. Then there’s a GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and much more on board… In a nutshell, we do agree with EISA’s decision. For now — until the phones with 8 megapixel cameras are released — the Samsung G810 is the best camera phone. Period!

FCC shows Nokia 2680 with AT&T logo

Good ol’ FCC is always there to surprise us with new phones. Unfortunately, they don’t show cool high-end models always, but still we appreciate them for their intelligence services. That being said, we’ve just spotted the low-end Nokia 2680 Slide on their pages. The presence of the AT&T logo clearly suggests where this entry-level baby is heading to. It’s a simple phone with specs that doesn’t impress, at all — low-end camera, FM radio, music player, and that’s about it.

Unsubsidized price should be around $115 or free with any kind of contract. Or AT&T will push the device as one of the phones from its GoPhone offering…

Nokia 2680 slide with AT&T logo spotted at FCC

AT&T might not be a household name in what companies call emerging markets but that little fact might soon change for good. FCC voyeurs have reported seeing a Nokia 2680 slide doing the rounds of the certification specialists proudly bearing an AT&T logo on its face. And since we all know that the phone has already been described as Nokia as being one created especially for the masses already described above, it can mean only one thing- that those poor chaps in the developing world are going to be bombarded with yet another massive ad campaign!

As for the phone itself, well its got a an FM radio, MP3 ringtone support, a not too great cam and a price tag of around $114 that might drop significantly once you count the subsidies and stuff which makes it just the perfect platform for AT&T to jumpstart their third world adventure with!

Launch of Samsung’s i8510 might overpower digital cameras

Samsung will shortly introduce i8510, a camera phone that comes with an eight mega pixel (MP) image sensor, the first of its kind on mobiles. With the introduction of this new feature, customers can now enjoy capturing high quality pictures compared to what it was on older mobile phones.

The i8150 camera phone with its capability to take high quality pictures identical to the ones taken on a digital camera, might as well lead to the end of digital cameras. Sources indicate that the pictures taken on the i8150 were the best ever to have been taken via a camera phone. Says Paul Nuttall, writer of What Digital Camera, that the open space between a digital camera and a camera phone has narrowed over the years and with the introduction of an 8 MP on mobiles, customers will find it difficult to distinguish an image taken with a 8 MP camera phone and a digital camera.

Despite its possible success, the major concern will be the size of the picture as a phones’ size limits the option to include a zoom lens, common to the conventional digital camera.

None-the-less, the Symbian powered phone incorporates all the advanced features, has a storage capacity of 8GB and will also provide high speed wireless connection to the internet. The design is stylish and the slider phone comes with a simple menu option. Sources indicate that people who had tested the i8150, finds capturing pictures much easier and faster and the camera adjusts to varying surrounding conditions with ease. The image colors were well defined and rich and the presence of a LED flash allows one to take pictures at dusk

Samsung will create history by launching its new product in Great Britain, with sources indicating that Sony Ericsson is planning to launch their own editions shortly. The Samsung mobile with its much hyped feature and the introduction of such headsets by other manufacturers will provide customers an option to go for a handset rather than a camera, which might mark the near end of a digital camera.

Nokia to unveil Supernova series phones throughout this year

Sky is perhaps the limit for the Nokia phones as the world’s leading mobile phone maker arrives with its aptly named ‘Supernova’ series of cell phones. These phones are targeting the fashion conscious consumers.

The first in the Nokia Supernova series is the Nokia 7310. Currently available, this phone has 2MP camera with 4 x digital zoom, FM radio, EDGE connectivity and Nokia’s Xpress-On front.

The third quarter will see the 7610 of the series, which is a slider phone with 3.2 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and 8 x digital zoom, dedicated music keys, FM radio and access to Nokia WidSets for navigation and sharing contents. It also has Theme Colonizer for capturing any color and applying it for key illumination.

The third quarter will also see the candybar Nokia 7210 that has nearly the same features as 7310 but sans Nokia’s Xpress-On and TV-out, and support for GSM 850 and costs $55 less than 7310.

The last quarter will see the colorful 7510 with 2.2-inch QVGA display, MicroSD slot, and access to Nokia Maps 1.2. Throughout this year, we will be outshined by the Supernova phones from Nokia.
