Times are tough. Sony Ericsson recently came off a painful profit decline that prompted the company to announce plans to fire 2,000 employees. And, with the global economy faltering to get back onto firm ground, Sony Ericsson has announced that they’ll be cutting expenses by cutting jobs. More specifically, Sony Ericsson is planning to lay off some 450 employees at its R&D facility in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. According to the Triangle Business Journal, the research and development team at this particular location comprises just 750 employees - which puts a little perspective on Sony Ericsson’s planned pink-slip party.
Sony Ericsson says that the jobs cuts are “part of company-wide changes that Sony Ericsson announced in July,” and these kinds of things are what they are.
Tougher times are likely still to come for the struggling Japanese-Swedish mobile phone venture. We’ll be keeping an eye on Sony Ericsson’s moves and shakes.
